Practitioner
- Kate Spurling
Kate has been an extremely active individual from an early age and has always had a love for the outdoors and all sports. A passion for snow skiing took her to the USA to become a certified ski instructor, where she taught skiing for a decade at the infamous Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado and also at the Olympic Resort of Whistler/ Blackcomb in Canada.
With a keen interest in the structure and function of the human body, Kate studied and graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne, Victoria with a double degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Complementary Medicine) and a Masters of Osteopathy. Prior to completing her two Osteopathic degrees, she obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement). She has practiced Osteopathy in Australia and Canada, and has brought the best practices home to Christchurch, New Zealand.
She has a keen interest in treating babies, children and pregnant women. Kate is passionate about seeing children bounce back from traumatic birth, playground injuries or childhood illnesses so that they can continue to grow and develop into healthy young adults. Similarly, she believes that Osteopathic care for pregnant women can help provide welcome relief as the mother’s body and posture continually compensates and responds to the baby’s growth. Kate has done extensive post-graduate training to further her skills in this area.
Kate has recently completed 300 hours of yoga teacher training with Creature Yoga in Byron Bay, NSW. In her spare time, you will find Kate running in the hills training for one her many trail ultramarathons, but most importantly during the winter she’ll be laying down turns on a “blank canvas” in the backcountry ski touring.
Kate has an undeniable commitment in returning her patients to optimal function and health to maintain and enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle.
Kate is a registered Osteopath with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand and Osteopaths New Zealand, she is also an ACC registered provider. While Kate no longer practices in Australia, she is still registered with Australian Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Osteopathy Australia to keep up to date with the world of Osteopathy.
